pollution as colonialism
As I move with the intention of productive choreographies within the framework of a reciprocal spatial practice, I must engage in a ongoing state of reflection. With these practices, it is incredibly important for me to embody the dimensions of anti-colonial ideologies. This involves considering my place, my privileges and what are the land relations with each action.
Imagine the back eddies; you can visualize swirls. Now picture it on a larger scale. Each piece of waste, toxin, debris, plastic (big or small) drifts into our bodies of water, emerge onto new lands and inevitably cross borders. This is happening with the currents and also directly with international waste relations.
With the currents, these materials are accessing Indigenous lands for non-Indigenous goals and agreements. These actions stem from the production of single-use materials, the distribution of waste, and the passing off of accumulative forms to neighbouring countries / places.
In the time of this tending with process:
Plastics have been considered marine snow
Plastics have been found in human blood
#Beatplasticpollution: 173 countries agree on a plastics treaty
